Beloved, The awesome power of God within a heart that beats for freedom has many names, of which one is a woman called Sojourner Truth. Born into slavery in 1797, successfully gained her freedom in 1826, Sojourner was an abolitionist and woman’s rights activist. She was the first African American woman to win a case against a Caucasian man in 1827 for the recovery of her son.
I believe her deep faith and the will for human rights kept her steadfast and immovable in her call to action. Today as many of us have the honor of breathing in life without fear of slavery or any form of bondage, it is because of those who sacrificed their lives, whose shoulders we stand on such as Sojourner Truth (Isabella Baumfree). Today as I breathe in the essence of freedom and Love I give thanks to God for such powerful souls.
Sojourner Truth: “Life is a hard battle anyway. If we laugh and sing a little as we fight the good fight of freedom, it makes it all go easier. I will not allow my life’s light to be determined by the darkness around me.”
To God Be The Glory, Apostle Brenda D. Cooper
